3/11/15 March Tarpon Fishing Report

Tough day again today.  Had two half day trips.  This morning we caught snappers for dinner and that was good.  We tried just for a little bit at the end for tarpon, but no bites.  We did have a cuda on for a little bit, and something else zing the bottom rod but not sure what it was.  After that I had a mid day tarpon trip.  I normally don’t book mid day trips but was booked while I was out of town so just went with it.  We tried hard but just did not see many fish around.  Found a few rolling near one of the bridges but they weren’t too active plus lots of boats, jetskis, etc… running around.  Actually got our lines ran over literally by 3 jet skis.  So a tough afternoon again no bite even.  Hopefully some more fish will show up here soon.  Full day tomorrow I have my fellow from yesterday, so we may try some different stuff but will likely give tarpon a little try anyways.  0 for 0

3/10/15 Florida Keys Tarpon Report March

After yesterday I knew today was going to be tough.  The winds were honking out of the east.  We tried a bit of tarpon fishing close to home this morning, but no luck.  Did see one boat catch one but that was about it.  We ran and tried some different channels in the backcountry, had plenty of action with blacktip sharks.  Caught some snappers mid day for dinner and even they were a struggle to find.  Tried again in the afternoon for the tarpon, but no bite unfortunately.  Hopefully the wind will lay down at some point and let the water warm up and some bigger schools of fish move in.  0 for 0

3/9/15 Tarpon Fishing Islamorada in March

Had Mike and his daughter Catherine out for a full day today.  Fishing was a little tough the water got chilly after the high winds and rain yesterday.  Seems to have made everything not want to bite great.  We fished hard for a coupe hours in the backcountry channels.  Saw a few fish roll.  Finally hooked up a nice 80 lb tarpon that father and daughter got to land together.  We had a couple black tips as well.  After that we went back around town in Islamorada.  We found a few fish in one of the channels, and had a couple ‘cheap shots’ where they flashed the baits but turned away from eating them at the last second.  Though we did catch some big 10-15 lb jack crevelles and a couple big nurse sharks which was fun and kept us busy for the last hour and a half.  1 for 1.
