6/25/13 Cape Sable Tarpon Fishing

Fished east cape today.  We caught some nice silver mullets on the way out.  We went 2/3 on tarpon, smaller guys in the 40-60 lb range but lots of fun still.  Also caught some cobias and sharks and a ‘mud marlin’.  Fishing in the summer time for tarpon can be good off east cape and surrounding areas though its work you must look around for the fish and lots of sharks to contend with.  Yesterday we also caught a tarpon on the way home near Islamorada in the afternoon.

6/23/13 June Islamorada Tarpon Fishing Report

We fished today and had to dodge rainstorms for quite a while.  We did a variety of things which worked out well in the backcountry, got some stuff for dinner, then my clients wants to catch a tarpon.  We found some mullet way in the back mudding on a flat, a couple throws of the cast net and had about 15 or so.  We tried a few spots in the backcountry but did not see much for tarpon.  Ran back near Islamorada and fished a spot with the falling tide I’ve been having some luck at.  It proved the right move again, my angler landed her first tarpon about a 60 lb fish, then we went home before more rain came!

6/21/13 Summer time tarpon fishing florida keys

Well today the june florida keys fishing tarpon was a little tough.  We had some mullet still fairly lively we caught yesterday while fun fishing and a few other dead baits.  So we headed back towards the everglades for some flamingo tarpon fishing.  However we fished a few different places and saw no fish rolling nor had any bites aside from a few sharks.  We caught a few small fish to bend the rod and to save for bait, and even ran and tried off east cape but alas no tarpon to be had in the backcountry.  We did catch some bigger things and then some more mullet on the way back towards islamorada. We gave it one last shot around downtown islamorada and ended up getting a nice 110 lb tarpon to end the day plus a big ‘mud marlin’ at the same time – double header!  Great way to end our trip sometimes it pays off to work hard all day for them.
